The Government of Ghana has announced renewed efforts to address flooding in major cities across the country. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to improve drainage systems, reduce flood risks, and protect lives and property during the rainy season.
According to government officials, ongoing desilting exercises, drainage expansion projects, and public awareness campaigns are expected to help minimize flooding in vulnerable communities. Authorities have also encouraged citizens to avoid dumping waste into drains, which contributes significantly to blockages and flooding.
The government has indicated that investments in flood-control infrastructure and emergency response systems will remain a priority. Experts believe that improved urban planning and community participation will be essential to achieving long-term solutions.
Residents in some flood-prone areas have welcomed the measures and expressed hope that the projects will bring lasting relief. However, some have called for faster implementation to address recurring challenges during heavy rainfall.
As Ghana continues to experience seasonal rains, stakeholders are urging cooperation between government agencies, local authorities, and citizens to ensure the success of flood prevention efforts.
