The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, says government has begun measures to tackle the water crisis affecting several communities in the Mfantseman Constituency of the Central Region.
He told Parliament that areas including Mankessim, Saltpond, Anomabo, Enyan Apaa and Gyedu Baifikrom have been hit hard by the drying up of the IDA Dam reservoir, which has left thousands of residents struggling for water.
Mr. Adjei said Ghana Water Limited has started procurement processes to supply and install a new pump system capable of delivering 1200 cubic meters of water per day from the Ochi Amissah River to the IDA Dam. The move, he explained, is aimed at ensuring year-round water availability and steady production to meet local demand.
The Minister also responded to questions on the status of the abandoned Bukunor Water Expansion Project in Asesewa and nearby communities, assuring the House that the government is working to complete the project to improve water access in the area.
