Government pays €7m for La General Hospital reconstruction

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the reconstruction of the La General Hospital will cost the state about €50 million.

According to the minister, the government has already paid €7 million to the contractor, leaving an outstanding balance of about €43 million to complete the project.

The La General Hospital, which served residents of La and surrounding communities for decades, was demolished in 2020 under the previous Akufo-Addo-led NPP government to make way for a new modern facility. The demolition sparked public concern after years passed without visible progress on the reconstruction.

Mr. Akandoh said the project remains a government priority, assuring that efforts are being made to ensure timely completion to restore healthcare services to the community.
