Gov’t deserves applause for providing free quality education despite economic challenges – Adomako-Mensah

Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah has praised the government’s efforts to restore the economy while providing free quality education, despite the current economic difficulties.

“I was happy to hear that interventions directed to the vulnerable have seen some increase… everybody must admit, even if you are in government, that times are tough.”

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning, Collins Adomako-Mensah commended the significant investment in road construction, with GH¢10 billion spent so far, exceeding the initial budget of GH¢4-6 billion.

He noted that the government aims to increase the budget line for roads by another GH¢2 billion, a move he described as “very significant” given the ongoing road constructions across the country.

During the mid-year budget review in Parliament, Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam provided an update on the government’s expenditure, revealing that GH¢5.4 billion has been disbursed to support various social programs, including the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), School Feeding, Capitation Grant, and National Health Insurance Scheme, since January 2024.

Additionally, GH¢1.5 billion has been allocated to support 1,488,575 students under the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, with an additional GH¢400 million committed for this year.

Collins Adomako-Mensah acknowledged the challenges faced by the government but expressed optimism about the future, citing the completion of negotiations with external creditors and the IMF program as a significant milestone.
