Gov’t halts sale of state and public lands

The Office of the President has directed the Lands Commission to immediately cease all activities related to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving state and public lands.

In a notice issued on January 10, 2025, the government stated that all ongoing and pending transactions must be halted without delay to facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of such lands.

The directive, signed by Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, emphasizes the need to protect state and public lands for the “collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations.”

The Lands Commission has been requested to submit a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions concerning state and public lands to the Office of the President within 14 days.

The directive is in line with Article 258 of the 1992 Constitution, which vests all public lands in the President on behalf of, and in trust for, the people of Ghana.
