The government of Ghana, through the Ghana Cocoa Board, has announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2026 Light Crop Season will remain unchanged, even as global cocoa prices record a decline.
In a circular signed by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control (A&QC), Dr. Francis Baah, COCOBOD said the new purchasing season is expected to begin on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The circular stated that, “purchases for the 2026 Light Crop Season will commence on Thursday, June 18, 2026.”
Despite pressures from the international market, the producer price will be maintained at GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans, while a 64-kilogram bag will continue to sell at GH¢2,587.00. It further noted that, “a tonne of cocoa, equivalent to 16 bags, will continue to attract GH¢41,392.00.”
The decision, according to COCOBOD, is aimed at safeguarding farmer incomes and sustaining confidence within the cocoa value chain.
COCOBOD explained that the move “underscores Government’s commitment to protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers, even as international cocoa prices experience a downward trend.”
It added that maintaining the current price structure is intended to “provide stability and confidence to farmers ahead of the new light crop season.”
