Gov’t releases funds to clear outstanding cocoa farmer payments

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) says the government has released funds to facilitate the payment of outstanding monies owed to cocoa farmers, describing the move as a demonstration of its commitment to protecting farmers’ livelihoods and sustaining the country’s cocoa industry.

In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department, COCOBOD urged farmers who are yet to receive their payments to contact the Licensed Buying Company (LBC) through which they sold their cocoa to complete the payment process.

“Farmers with outstanding payments are encouraged to engage the relevant Licensed Buying Company through which they sold their cocoa,” the statement said, adding that “COCOBOD will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure the full settlement of outstanding obligations.”

The Board said the disbursement of the funds highlights government’s determination to support cocoa farmers, who remain at the heart of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

“The release of these funds underscores the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of cocoa farmers and preserving the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa industry,” the statement noted.

COCOBOD also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring cocoa farmers receive the full value of their produce.

“COCOBOD remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring that they receive the full benefits of their hard work,” the Board stated.

It further expressed gratitude to cocoa farmers for their continued contribution to the country’s economy despite challenges confronting the sector.

“COCOBOD expresses its sincere appreciation to all cocoa farmers for their continued dedication and invaluable contribution to Ghana’s economy,” the statement said.

The Board added that it would continue collaborating with the government and other industry stakeholders to strengthen the cocoa value chain, improve the welfare of farmers, and promote the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
