President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s infrastructure, with a special focus on the Oti Region, one of the nation’s most strategic transit corridors.
Speaking at a packed event at the forecourt of the Dambai College of Education as part of his “Thank You” tour, President Mahama described modern infrastructure as “the backbone of national development” and emphasized the region’s vital role in the movement of food and goods between the northern and southern zones of the country.
“The Eastern Corridor Road, one of our country’s most strategic transportation links, is a top priority under my administration,” he declared.
He assured the crowd that the long-delayed Nkwanta–Kpassa–Oti Damanko stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road would be completed without further delays. In addition, he announced that several critical road projects in the Oti Region are currently at various stages of procurement and would soon commence. These include:
Construction of the Dambai Bridge
Upgrading of the Okadjakrom–Kwamikrom Road
Upgrading of the Abotoase–Atonkor Road
Upgrading of the Kpasa–Tinjase Road
Rehabilitation of the Hohoe–Jasikan Road
Upgrading of the Nkwanta–Oti Damanko Road
Rehabilitation of the Hohoe–Baika–Jasikan Road
President Mahama further revealed that the next phase of road development projects is undergoing technical costing. Once completed, these projects will move into the procurement stage. Targeted roads include the Nkwanta–Dambai road and road networks within the Kete Krachi, Krachi Nchumuru, and Guan districts.
“All constituencies in the Oti Region have been included in our national road upgrade programme,” he said. “This programme spans over 160 constituencies across the country and is a key component of our National Infrastructure Master Plan.”
President Mahama stressed that infrastructure investment is not merely about construction, but a strategic move to unlock economic potential and improve access to markets, health care, and education in underserved areas.
His remarks drew strong applause from the audience, many of whom have long called for road improvements in the region.
