The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the postponement of all upcoming Ghana Premier League fixtures following the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong. The 20-year-old footballer was fatally shot during an armed robbery attack on the team’s bus on Sunday, April 12, 2026, as the squad made their way back to Berekum from an away match in Samreboi against FC Samartex.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on the Bibiani–Goaso road, near Ahyiresu, when masked gunmen ambushed the team’s bus, blocking the highway and opening fire. The driver attempted to reverse to escape the attackers, forcing players and officials to jump from the bus and take refuge in nearby bushes.
Dominic Frimpong was tragically struck by a bullet to the head and, despite efforts to save him, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Bibiani Government Hospital. He is the sole casualty of the attack, with no other players or staff members sustaining serious injuries.
Frimpong, a gifted winger, had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
He had made an immediate impact with the team, scoring twice in 13 appearances and quickly becoming a fan favorite. Before his time with Berekum Chelsea, Frimpong had also played in the Division One League with Attram De Visser Academy and Tudu Mighty Jets, where he earned recognition for his flair and technical ability.
