Parliament has adopted the report of its Finance Committee approving the engagement of Principal Consult Limited to develop, implement and deploy a cross border e commerce Value Added Tax monitoring and collection system for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The new digital platform is expected to improve the monitoring of cross border online transactions and strengthen the collection of VAT from digital trade.
Presenting the committee’s report to the House, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Isaac Adongo, said the system would help improve oversight of cross border e commerce activities while ensuring more efficient VAT collection.
He said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation and improve tax compliance as Ghana’s digital economy continues to expand.
Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko told Parliament that the success of the project would depend on close cooperation between public institutions and private sector stakeholders involved in its implementation.
The government believes the new system will help improve transparency in tax administration and ensure that VAT due on cross border online transactions is collected more effectively.
