Angry Chiefs of Ewoyaa and other lithium benefitting communities in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region have cautioned the government and Members of Parliament to grant Atlantic Lithium Company a licence to start their operationalization or face massive votes against them in the upcoming December general elections.
According to Nana Mbronu Edu IX, Chief of Ewoyaa, the government and Parliament are delaying the issuance of the licence despite the company’s commitment to developing the communities.
Speaking to Metro TV’s Isaac Dadzie, the chief expressed his disappointment and frustration, stating that the community has been neglected by previous governments and that the company’s presence has already led to significant development projects.
He warned that if the licence is not granted by November, the community will ask the company to remove its machinery, and the youth will vote against the government and Parliamentarians in the elections.
Other Chiefs and workers in the lithium mining communities have also appealed to the government and Parliamentarians to grant the licence, citing the company’s contributions to development projects and the potential loss of employment opportunities if the licence is not granted.
“We will boycott the elections if you dare refuse to grant the lithium company licence,” the Chief warned.
The Chiefs and workers are urging the government and Parliamentarians to grant the licence to ensure the development of the community and prevent unemployment.
