Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has revealed his intention to contest either the position of National Deputy General Secretary or National Organizer of the party, citing the need for “effective planning and coordination” as the NDC prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on his motivation, Nukpenu emphasized that his decision is driven by a desire to bring stronger coordination and broader experience to the party’s national operations.
“I need to step high to be able to come into a different experience across the country. I will be still stronger and better than I’ve been. I will need effective planning and coordination across the other fifteen regions and all the councils to be able to get a clear mandate in getting the power for the twenty election,” he stated.
Nukpenu further stressed that the role requires resilience and divine guidance.
“That is why I think God should grant me life and the stronger strength to be able to step in that and assist the office of the General Secretary in proper planning and coordination for effective organization,” he added.
When asked about his chances of winning, Nukpenu underscored that electoral success is rooted in strategy rather than speculation.
“Election is won through proper planning and coordination. I don’t know the other aspirants yet, but until we all pick the necessary nominations, we will see how each person’s capacity stands before the people,” he remarked.
Highlighting his track record, Nukpenu pointed to his leadership in Greater Accra, where the NDC secured 29 out of 34 parliamentary seats in the 2024 general elections. He expressed confidence in his ability to connect with the grassroots.
“I see myself as one who can make a lot of appeals and get people captive. All I need is life,” he said.
The NDC is expected to hold national executive elections as part of its reorganization ahead of 2028. The National Deputy General Secretary and Organizer plays a critical role in assisting the General Secretary with administration, coordination, and implementation of party decisions across all 16 regions and 276 constituencies.
