As the country gears toward the 2023 edition of the annual Green Ghana Day event, vociferous hiplife artiste, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as Kwame A-Plus has suggested that government focuses on planting more cocoa seedlings instead of normal trees.
According to A-Plus, he cannot fathom why Ghana will spend millions of Ghana cedis to plant ordinary trees like Neem when there is cocoa.
In a Facebook post, he explained that cocoa is one of the leading revenue earners for the country and does very well when planted in many parts of the country especially the middle belt.
He, therefore, suggested that instead of planting normal trees, the government must distribute more cocoa seedlings to individuals to plant. A Plus is confident that the country will reap enormous benefits from this in three years in terms of greening the country and revenue generation.
“Your main source of revenue is cocoa yet every year during Greening Ghana day you spend millions of Ghana cedis planting neem tree . Give free cocoa seedlings to individuals and communities in the middle belt of Ghana and see what will happen in 3 years. See, Cocoa grows even in Abeka Lapas and Cantonment,” he wrote.
The Green Ghana Day (GGD) 2023 will take place on 9th June 2023. On that day, the government has estimated that about 10 million seedlings will be planted across the country whilst nurturing the over 30 million which were planted in 2021 and 2022.
