The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has completed the first phase of repair work on the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line, with power restored to affected customers.
GRIDCo said its engineers carried out the preliminary work on Sunday, 16 August 2026, allowing electricity supply to resume while preparations continue for the replacement of the damaged transmission tower.
The tower was affected by a welding explosion in July, prompting GRIDCo to begin repair work to restore the reliability of the transmission line.
The company said the remaining work, which involves replacing the affected tower, will be carried out on Sunday, 23 August.
GRIDCo said it is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to notify customers and communities in areas that could be affected by the planned work.
Some areas may experience temporary interruptions in power supply during the exercise.
The company said the work is necessary to restore the full integrity and reliability of the transmission line and ensure it can continue to safely and efficiently carry electricity.
