A nationwide power outage that affected several parts of the country has been fully restored, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) has announced.
The outage occurred on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 20:09 hrs. when the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line tripped due to a fault.
“The incident occurred at 20:09 hrs. on Thursday night when the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line tripped due to a fault. While efforts were in progress to restore the line to service, other adjacent lines tripped, causing a loss of some power plants,” the release explained.
The affected areas included some parts of Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and other parts of Northern Ghana.
GRIDCO’s System Control Centre (SCC) immediately swung into action to stabilize the power system and commenced restoration of supply to affected areas. By 22:57 hrs., power supply had been fully restored.
“We apologize to the general public for the inconvenience caused by this incident,” Dzifa Bampoh, Manager, Corporate Communications at GRIDCO, said in the release.
GRIDCO operates the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) and transmits electricity to 33 bulk customers and distribution utilities from 11 wholesale suppliers.
