Group slams gov’t’s allocation of 30% Grade A schools for public schools

The Leadership Club and Child Rights Advocacy have expressed concern over the government’s policy of allocating 30% of Grade “A” school placements to public schools, describing it as “discriminatory” against private schools.

In a press release provided to Metro TV, the group stated, “While commending the President for the initiative aimed at benefiting all students, we believe the policy’s implementation lacks justification and is discriminatory.”

They argued that every student in Ghana, regardless of whether they attend public or private schools, should be entitled to government policies and initiatives, citing Section 7 of the Citizenship Act, 2000 (ACT 591).

“Private schools contribute significantly to the education sector, paying taxes to support government expenditures. They also provide essential educational services in the communities where Government schools are absent,” the statement added.

The group urged presidential candidates to recognize the right to education for every child in Ghana, regardless of their school ownership, and called on the government to support all schools, providing a level playing field for both public and private institutions.
