A group calling itself, the Ghana Elections Project, has announced plans to embark on a protest against the current power crisis, colloquially called “dumsor” in the country.
Ghanaians have been facing challenges with power supply in the country, negatively impacting businesses.
Despite the power interruptions, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says there will be no need for a load-shedding timetable.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 21, the Ghana Elections Projects said the intended protest is to mount pressure on authorities to necessitate the implementation of a load-shedding timetable.
“To pressurise the government to cause the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited to release the dumsor 2024 timetable,” excerpts of the statement available to Metro TV said.
The demonstration is also aimed at compelling the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s led government to fix the power problem in the country.
As part of the protest, a petition would be submitted to the Ministry of Energy and the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) to get the power issues addressed for all Ghanaians.
The group stated categorically that the protest “is an apolitical protest aimed at rallying Ghanaians toward a common cause.”
The details of the demonstration are below:
Date: Friday, April 26, 2024
Time: 6:30 am prompt
Convening point: Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
