GSS advocates for use of Multidimensional Poverty Index data to address poverty

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is urging policymakers and stakeholders to utilize its Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) data to effectively address poverty in the country.

Unlike traditional poverty measures, the MPI assesses poverty across four key areas: employment, living conditions, health, and education, using 13 indicators.

The index provides a detailed picture of poverty levels in various districts and communities, enabling targeted interventions.

To promote utilization of the data, the GSS has trained media practitioners and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on understanding and utilizing the MPI report and statsbank.

Omar Seidu, Head of Social Statistics at GSS, believes this approach will enhance understanding and utilization of the data to address poverty challenges.

The GSS is committed to ensuring that its data is used to inform policies and programs that benefit Ghanaians.
