The Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), together with its Alumni Association (Giants), will mark its 117th Founders’ Day with a Distinguished Alumni Lecture and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the GSTS Auditorium in Takoradi.
Set to begin at 1:00 p.m. GMT, the event will draw alumni, students, teachers, industry leaders and other distinguished guests to honour the school’s storied history and celebrate Giants who have made significant contributions to Ghana’s development in engineering, academia, public service and national security.
This year’s celebration is held under the theme: “GSTS @117: Developing Resilient Leaders Through Science, Technology and Character.”
Four Distinguished Giants to Receive Awards
Four accomplished alumni will be honoured during the ceremony for their outstanding achievements and lifelong service to the nation:
- Ing. F. W. Tuyee (Posthumous) – Class of ’54-H4
- Cdre. S. G. Obimpeh (Rtd.) – Class of ’61-H1
- Ing. S. Ahiekpor – Class of ’69A-H1
- Prof. Y. D. Yeboah – Class of ’69/’71-H2
The honourees are being recognized for exceptional leadership, professional distinction and lasting impact in their respective fields.
Ceremony to Feature Distinguished Speakers
GT. Prof. A. Simons (’86A-H8) will chair the programme, bringing his continued influence within the alumni community to the occasion.
Delivering the keynote address will be GT. Maj. Gen. M. Essien (Rtd.) (’84/’86-H3), who is expected to draw on his military career to speak on leadership, resilience and nation-building.
A Legacy of 117 Years
Over more than a century, Ghana Secondary Technical School has established itself as one of Ghana’s leading second-cycle institutions, turning out graduates who have gone on to excel in engineering, science, technology, business, education, governance and the security services.
According to organizers, this year’s Founders’ Day is meant not only to celebrate distinguished alumni but also to motivate current students to embrace excellence through discipline, innovation and strong character.
Hundreds of alumni from Ghana and abroad are expected to attend, reflecting the strong bond among Giants and their ongoing commitment to the growth of their alma mater.
As GSTS celebrates 117 years, the occasion reaffirms the school’s continued mission of shaping resilient leaders positioned to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s national progress.
