GTA CEO calls for bold celebration of culture during Ghana Heritage Month 2026

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has called on all Ghanaians to embrace their cultural identity with pride and purpose during the month-long celebration of Ghana Heritage Month 2026, also known as Ghana Month.

Speaking at the official launch of the event on March 2, 2026 at Nationalism Park, Accra, the CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority highlighted the significance of heritage as a cornerstone of Ghana’s national future.

“Osaagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah envisioned a proud, self-sustaining nation anchored on its culture and identity. Today, we are reminded that our heritage is not a relic of the past, but the foundation of our future.”

The vibrant launch ceremony, attended by a host of dignitaries, tourism stakeholders, and members of the diplomatic corps, showcased Ghana’s rich cultural tapestry through traditional drumming, dancing, and art exhibitions.

Among the distinguished guests were Edmond Moukala, Head of Office and Representative of UNESCO to Ghana, and Karina Gould, Culture Attaché of the Canadian Embassy, who joined in celebrating the nation’s diverse heritage.

In her address, Maame Efua Houadjeto passionately urged Ghanaians to “eat Ghanaian, wear Ghanaian and be truly Ghanaian,” emphasizing that Heritage Month is an opportunity not only to celebrate but to intentionally and boldly reclaim Ghana’s cultural identity.

The GTA CEO further highlighted the economic and social impact of heritage on tourism, calling it one of Ghana’s strongest competitive advantages globally.

She noted that the cultural capital of the nation does more than showcase traditions; it drives tourism, creates jobs, and fosters a sense of unity and national pride.

“Heritage Month is a clarion call for us to celebrate our culture intentionally and boldly,” she said.

“Our culture is not just who we were; it is who we are and who we will become.”

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, echoed the CEO’s sentiments and encouraged full participation in the celebration.

“This is our month. It is a time to reconnect with our roots, celebrate our diversity and project Ghana confidently to the world.”

Ghana Heritage Month 2026 promises to be an inspiring and transformative period, with the GTA’s leadership ensuring that the celebration of culture becomes a rallying point for national unity and international recognition.
