GTEC restores ICAG recognition after corrective actions

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has restored the recognition of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), after earlier withdrawing it over what it described as a Quality Assurance breach linked to the use of an unearned doctorate title.

In a letter dated 8 January 2026, and addressed to ICAG Chief Executive Officer, Mr Eric Oduro Osae, the Commission confirmed that it was satisfied with the corrective measures taken by the Institute and its leadership.

“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) acknowledges the corrective measures taken by yourself and/or the Institute, as communicated in your letter dated 8 January 2026, to address the issues raised, including the rectification of misleading information previously published,” the letter stated.

GTEC noted that the steps taken by ICAG adequately addressed the concerns that led to the withdrawal of recognition earlier the same day.

“Consequently, the Commission is satisfied that the identified breaches have been adequately remedied,” the letter added.

Based on this assessment, the Commission announced the immediate reinstatement of ICAG’s status.

“Accordingly, with immediate effect, the recognition of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) is hereby restored,” GTEC declared.

The Commission further clarified that all professional certificates issued by ICAG from the date of restoration would now be recognised.

“All professional certificates issued by the Institute from the date of restoration shall therefore be considered recognised by the Commission,” the statement assured.

GTEC also used the opportunity to commend Mr Oduro Osae, congratulating him on his appointment as Chief Executive Officer and wishing him well in his role.

“The Commission seizes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Eric Oduro Osae on his well-deserved appointment and wishes him every success in his new role,” the letter stated.
