Gunshots disrupt voter registration exercise at  Sagnarigu EC office 

Tension remains high at the Sagnarigu Electoral Commission (EC) office in the Northern Region after gunshots were fired early Sunday morning, disrupting the ongoing voter registration exercise.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 6:00 am, causing panic among prospective registrants and EC officials. The registration process was subsequently suspended.

Police personnel have been deployed to the scene to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all individuals. Efforts are underway to restore calm and normalcy to the area.

The cause of the shooting is yet to be established, and no casualties have been reported. The EC and security agencies are working together to investigate the incident and ensure the smooth continuation of the registration exercise.

The voter registration exercise, which began on May 7, aims to compile a new voters’ register for the 2024 general elections.
