Rapper and student at the University of Ghana, Legon, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly called Guru, and his running mate, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah (Jay-Lit), have formally petitioned the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs against their disqualification from the SRC elections.
The duo, contesting under the “Maralit” banner, were disqualified due to Guru’s non-resident status.
In a statement dated Wednesday, August 21, available to Metro TV, they expressed commitment to building an inclusive SRC.
“We shall ensure that there is no discrimination towards any student, whether resident or non-resident… Our resolve only grows stronger in the face of adversity.”
They have filed an interim injunction with the Judicial Board to halt the electoral process pending a hearing.
Guru and Jay-Lit expressed confidence in the Judicial Board’s integrity, stating, “We have full confidence and trust… that they will grant us a fair hearing, leading to a just outcome.”
The pair rallied their supporters, saying, “Victory is not just a possibility; it is a certainty, as long as we remain united and steadfast.”
