President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Clement Boateng, has confirmed a four-day strike action in protest against the introduction of the Publican AI system at the country’s ports.
He disclosed that discussions have already been held with the Ghana Shippers’ Council following an intervention by the Ministry of Transport.
According to him, a crucial meeting has also been scheduled with the Ministry of Finance on April 16, 2026, to further address concerns surrounding the strike.
Clement Boateng criticised the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over what he described as illegal charges at the ports.
His comments come in response to earlier remarks by the GRA Commissioner-General, who indicated that the AI system was introduced to curb financial losses at the ports.
However, Mr. Boateng argued that the GRA’s approach is unjustified, insisting that it is unlawful for the Authority to make excessive profits through port operations.
“Huge profits shouldn’t be the sole aim at the expense of businesses and the public,” he stated.
He further cautioned the GRA to prioritise public interest, urging the Authority to recalibrate the system to ensure fairness and transparency in port charges.
