Gyakye Quayson drags KT Hammond to court for contempt

The embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North in the Central Region, James Gyakye Quayson, has just filed a petition at the High Court accusing Minister of Trade and Industry KT Hammond of contempt.

This follows KT Hammond allegedly telling a Kumasi-based television station during an interview that Mr. Gyakye Quayson would be imprisoned.

The comments made by KT Hammond, in the opinion of the Assin North Constituency’s lawyers, are extremely prejudiced and violate Mr. Gyakye Quayson’s right to a fair trial.

Lawyer Justin Pwavra Teriwajah claimed in the writ that KT Hammond might be held in contempt of court for the Minister of Trade and Industry’s blatant usurpation of the trial judge’s duties.

They are requesting that he appear in front of the judge so that he can be convicted for contempt of court and, if found guilty, given a prison sentence.

Gyakye Quayson is currently on trial for perjury after it was discovered that he had submitted his nomination for the 2020 elections even though he held two citizenships.
