A significant part of President Mahama’s speech was dedicated to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)—a game-changing initiative that could reshape Africa’s economic future.
The AfCFTA, President Mahama emphasized, holds the potential to create the largest free trade area in the world, with an estimated market value of $3.4 trillion.
Speaking at the 3rd Africa Prosperity Dialogue, he called on African leaders to harness the full potential of this initiative, underscoring that it is not merely about free trade but about creating an environment that supports the continent’s industries and businesses.
“The African Continental Free Trade Area represents a game-changing opportunity for African businesses, entrepreneurs, and industries,” he stated.
While praising the AfCFTA’s vast potential, Mahama cautioned that its success depends on significant infrastructure improvements across the continent.
“We must invest in infrastructure to facilitate trade, efficient road, rail networks, ports, and digital connectivity,” he said, stressing that these are crucial for realizing the full potential of the trade agreement.
President Mahama believes by reducing trade barriers and improving logistical networks, the AfCFTA will unlock new economic opportunities and drive sustainable growth across Africa.
