Kwadwo Twum Boafo, Acting CEO of the Financial Intelligence Centre and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed profound grief over the passing of Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, describing him as “a man of superior intellect” who was “calm” and “efficient”.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Friday morning [August 22], Twum Boafo revealed that he and Dr. Boamah had been comrades for over twenty years, sharing a deep bond that transcends politics.
“I don’t think a week has passed that I didn’t hear from either of them… Two days before this incident happened, I spoke with him,” Twum Boafo said, highlighting the pain of losing a close friend.
Twum Boafo praised Dr. Omane Boamah’s exceptional leadership qualities, noting that “when anything happens in a crisis, he was always the calmest person in the room”.
He also commended Dr. Omane Boamah’s dedication to his work, saying, “He left an indelible mark”.
The loss has left Twum Boafo struggling to find words to console Dr. Boamah’s family, particularly his wife Rita and their children.
“I don’t know what I would say to his children… I don’t know what I would say to Rita. I offer them my deepest condolences,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.
In a lighter moment, Twum Boafo jokingly mentioned that he would now have to bail out Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, more often.
“Just yesterday, I was telling Felix that he should start behaving because since Omane is now gone, I’m the only person who bails him out when he gets into trouble,” Twum Boafo said.
Twum Boafo bid his departed friend a final farewell, noting that “Omane da yie [rest well]… I hope to see you sometime, hopefully not too soon because yewo edwuma ye [we have work to do]”.
