High Court grants NPP’s application for collation, declaration of Tema Central seat

The Electoral Commission (EC) must compile and announce results for contested parliamentary constituencies after the High Court granted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) request for a writ of mandamus.

Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South are the standout constituencies.

The court ordered the EC to finish compiling the results from two Tema Central voting stations and announce the winner by January 6, 2025.

In order to guarantee a safe and efficient exercise, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has also been directed to provide armed protection during the collation and declaration procedures.

The ruling was hailed as a win for electoral accountability by the NPP. The decision emphasizes how important it is to settle election disputes fairly and transparently.

The fate of these important constituencies will be clarified if the EC follows the court’s deadline.
