The High Court in Accra has suspended the criminal trial of former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife pending a Supreme Court decision on an application seeking to stop criminal trials from being conducted during the legal vacation.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the injunction application on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The High Court subsequently adjourned the case to August 25, by which time the Supreme Court is expected to have determined the application.
The injunction was filed by Ofoase Ayirebi Member of Parliament Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at the apex court.
The application challenges the conduct of trials during the legal vacation and its outcome could determine whether the High Court can proceed with the criminal proceedings involving Adu-Boahene and his wife.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, Peter Osei-Asamoah held brief for Samuel Atta Akyea, who represents the accused persons.
The State was represented by Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, who led the prosecution team.
The latest development means the substantive trial will remain on hold until the Supreme Court has considered the injunction application and the High Court has an opportunity to proceed based on the apex court’s decision.
The case is now expected to return to court on August 25, 2026.
