Vice-Chairperson of the Ghana Women’s League Board, Rosalind Koramah Amoh, has attributed the decline in stadium attendance to hooliganism, citing it as the primary factor driving fans away from live matches.
Her comments come in the wake of the t ragic death of Francis Frimpong, affectionately known as Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko fan, who lost his life during the ill-fated match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC over the weekend.
Speaking in an interview with Metro TV on Wednesday, February 5, Rosalind Koramah Amoh emphasized the imperative need for enhanced security measures at stadiums, stressing that safety must be prioritized at all times to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
“Hooliganism is the reason many people stay away from going to match venues because they don’t want to risk their lives, Hopefully, we will rise from these ash and ensure that the right things are done, and our stadiums are well protected,” she said.
During matchday 19, a tragic incident unfolded as Asante Kotoko clashed with Nsoatreman in Nsoatre, resulting in the fatal stabbing of a Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley.
The match was marred by chaos, with objects being hurled onto the pitch and spectators storming the field to attack players and officials.
