Hundreds of Congo Villa residents face eviction threat from Pacific Oil

Some individuals at Congo Villa in Kasoa are on the verge of losing their properties to an oil marketing company.

Although these individuals have documents covering their properties, they have been cautioned by the police to vacate with immediate effect to allow for a demolishing exercise.

These property owners have occupied the area for close to two decades, without any incident until recently, when the oil marketing company, Pacific Oil, laid a claim to have bought the land from the Winneba High Court through an auction sale.

The OMC proceeded to demolish some structures in the area even before it could furnish property owners with any authentic document, prompting some traditional leaders to institute a court action against the company.

But while the matter lingered in court, the OMC continued to demolish structures and constantly harassed dwellers with eviction notices.

One of the heavily affected persons is Memuna, a single mother of four children, whose four bedroom apartment was partially ‘demolished’ by Pacific Oil.

Later the conceded that her building did not fall within their zone but failed to rebuild the apartment or compensate her.

She tells Metro News that it cost her a fortune to renovate her house and now the OMC has resolved to erect a wall, leaving just about one meter space at the frontage of her house.

Similarly, other owners are on the verge of losing their properties to Pacific Oil as the company is hurriedly developing the land even though a court action has been instituted against them.

On Thursday, August 15, a police team from the Central East Regional Command patrolled the area asking property owners to vacate to make room for a demolishing exercise while no such action has been sanctioned by the court and the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly.

These property owners are appealing for the intervention of the police high command as well as the state.

With persons acting as officers for Pacific Oil, patrolling the area with an Office of the President embossed vehicle, they fear there are some ‘mighty hands’ behind the scenes.

A traditional leader, who also owns a property in the area, Okatakyie Kwasi Atta II, wants police to act with diligence in order to prevent the matter from escalating.

Meanwhile, residents have raised concerns about a possible flooding of the area upon any heavy rains as a result of a gutter that is being constructed by the company.

Metro TV checks with the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly show that there is no permit allowing the construction activities.

Pacific Oil declined to comment when approached by Metro TV.
