Hybrid pitch is the solution to our stadia problems – Alhaji Sinkare tells Sports Ministry

The Chief Executive Officer of Blaze Investments, a sports infrastructure expert, Alhaji Salifu Sinkare, has advised the Sports Ministry to install hybrid pitches at the Accra and Baba Yara Stadia.

This comes in the wake of growing challenges with the quality of the pitches.

Ghanaian football fans have expressed concerns over the poor maintenance of the natural grass pitches at the various national stadia.

The facility at Baba Yara has been the only licensed stadium in Ghana to host grade A national team matches since February 2022.

However, the Ghana Football Association announced on Wednesday, September 11, that the Confederation of African Football has banned the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting international matches due to the devastating state of the pitch.

This decision has led to backlash against the Sports Ministry and government for the poor maintenance culture.

Sports infrastructure expert Alhaji Salifu Sinkare, CEO of Blaze Investments, has advised the Sports Ministry to install FIFA-approved hybrid pitches at the Accra and Kumasi sports stadia as a lasting solution to the poor pitches.

Speaking on Metro Sports on Metro TV, the sports infrastructure expert said, “The hybrid pitch is more ideal than natural grass or astro-turf. It will cost Ghana about $1 million to install the hybrid pitch, but it offers the solution to the problems associated with the pitches. It is easier to maintain the hybrid pitch than any other type of pitch. The players who also play in Europe and other parts of the world find the hybrid pitch more conducive than the others.”

Ghana is racing against time to find a venue for the next international games following the ban on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by CAF, and a quick, lasting solution is prime.
