I deserve a Diplomatic Passport too – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known to fans as Shatta Wale, believes he deserves a diplomatic passport for his contribution to promoting Ghana through music.

In an interview with George Quaye on Prime Time on Joy Prime, the musician said his years of work and international collaborations have helped project Ghana’s image globally.

“I also deserve a diplomatic passport because of the hard work I’ve put into my music, which has put Ghana on the map,” he said.

Shatta Wale pointed to his collaborations with global stars such as Beyoncé and Vybz Kartel as examples of how he has represented Ghana internationally. He added that his focus has always been to sell Ghana to the world through his craft.

His comments come after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently presented five Ghanaians, including, musician Rocky Dawuni, YouTuber Wode Maya, broadcaster Anita Erskine, visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and event promoter Dentaa Amoateng MBE, with diplomatic passports for their contributions to promoting Ghana abroad.

Addressing his recent Grammy consideration, Shatta Wale noted that he did not personally seek the recognition. “I don’t really need a Grammy award for anything; it was my team who filed for me,” he said.

The musician, known for his outspoken nature, said his main goal remains flying Ghana’s flag high through music.
