“I didn’t fight, I was restoring order” – Majority Chief Whip on vetting chaos

Majority Chief Whip, Roackson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has broken his silence on the recent chaotic scenes that marred parliamentary proceedings, stressing that his actions were geared towards restoring order.

Appearing before a special committee probing the disturbances in Monday, February 10, Mr. Dafeamekpor dismissed allegations that he engaged in fisticuffs with Alhassan Tampuli, a former Deputy Transport Minister and Gushegu MP.

He recounted that during the altercation, Mr. Tampuli grabbed his traditional attire, but he managed to free himself without escalating the situation.

Mr. Dafeamekpor emphasized that his primary concern was to ensure that parliamentary business proceeded uninterrupted, adding that he had no interest in provoking a confrontation.

The Majority Chief Whip also revealed that he intervened to rescue Tano South MP, Charles Asiedu, who was being restrained by Mr. Tampuli.

According to Mr. Dafeamekpor, the chaos was orchestrated by the minority caucus, who sought to disrupt parliamentary business for the day.

He maintained that his actions were justified, as he sought to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.
