“I leave behind a Ghana that is working” – President Akufo-Addo

In his final state of the nation address to Parliament, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in Ghana’s future, saying the nation will “go from strength to strength”.

“I am happy to hand over a Ghana that is safe, secure, united and firmly rooted in her attachment to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law,” he stated, highlighting the country’s progress under his leadership.

Akufo-Addo, who steps down after serving two terms, noted that Ghana has navigated significant global challenges with “remarkable tenacity” and its economy is “steadily rebounding”.

He also emphasized the effectiveness of the country’s institutions.

The outgoing president further highlighted the empowerment of Ghana’s youth, the flourishing arts, and the safety and dignity of the elderly as key achievements of his administration.

“I leave behind a Ghana that is working,” he concluded, thanking the Members of Parliament for their attention.

This farewell address marks the end of Akufo-Addo’s presidency, which began in 2017.
