Ignore Speaker’s Misleading Claim; Philip Basoah Didn’t Collapse In Parliament – Late Kumawu MP’s brother

A little over 24 hours after the news broke that the Member of Parliament for Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, Philip Basoah has sadly joined his ancestors, the brother of the late legislator is contradicting the claims of the circumstances leading to the death announced by the Speaker of Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has indicated that the late MP collapsed in Parliament before being rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead after a few days.

Following the claims of the Speaker, the brother of the late MP, Solomon Basoah has dismissed the claims of Hon. Bagbin describing it as far from the truth.

Solomon Basoah, who was speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM insisted that his brother was found unconscious in his bed on Friday morning after his room was broken into when he failed to come out. He was then rushed to the hospital where he met his untimely death.

“I heard the Speaker say that my brother collapsed in Parliament. That is far from the truth. My brother went to Parliament on Thursday [March 23] and returned home and the houseboy was expecting him to wake up on Friday [March 24] and when he didn’t come out, he called people to help break the MP’s door and saw him unconscious on his bed and took him to the hospital,” the brother of the late Kumawu MP explained.

He added that, “they took him to the LEKMA Hospital and then to Euracare Ghana Hospital, and finally to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he died.”

Solomon Basoah further dismissed the widely circulated rumor that his late brother was brought in an ambulance to vote to approve President Akufo-Addo’s six new ministerial nominees.

“It is never true that he was brought in an ambulance to Parliament to come and vote to approve President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees,” he insisted.

Philip Basoah, aged 54 was pronounced dead on the dawn of Tuesday, March 28, exactly a week after the passing of Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, another stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
