Ignore The Fake Report; Parliament Has Not Approved CI Making GhanaCard Sole Registration Document – Kate Addo

The Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament has debunked news reports that the House has approved Electoral Commission’s Constitutional Instrument (CI) seeking to the make Ghana Card the sole registration document.

According to the Directorate, the said reports are palpable falsehood which is misleading the public and creating unwarranted sentiments.

In a statement copied to Metrotvonline.com, the Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Madam Kate Addo stated emphatically that Parliament has not passed such instrument. She further explained that “Parliament does not pass Constitutional Instruments. They only come into force with the effluxion of time; that is, after twenty-one (21) days of the Instrument being laid in the House.”

Seeking to explain what happened on Thursday, February 23, 2023, which has been misconstrued by some media houses that Parliament has passed the said CI, Madam Kate Addo narrated that the exercise was a pre-presentation discussions on the CI, to collect input from relevant sources for the drafting of the Constitutional Instrument (CI).

She therefore called on all Ghanaians to reject the said reportage adding that media houses should strive to give accurate reportage of events in parliament. She added that in the case of ambiguity, reporters should contact the relevant officers for clarification.

“The attention of Parliament Ghana has been drawn to a report in the Ghanaian Times alleging that Parliament has passed a Constitutional Instrument (CI) to adopt the Ghana Card as the sole registration document.
Parliament states categorically that it has not passed any such Instrument. Parliament urges all media personnel to endeavor to be accurate in their reportage and to contact the relevant authorities and officers in case of ambiguity or for further clarification on issues concerning or emanating from the House,” portions of the statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament noted.
