Immigration Service vows justice after officer killed in Tempani attack

The Ghana Immigration Service has pledged to work with the police to bring to justice those behind the shooting of two of its officers in the Upper East Region, one of whom has died.

The officers, Assistant Immigration Control Officer Philip Lartey and Assistant Immigration Control Officer Cosmos Dakurah, were attacked on Sunday night while returning from duty on a motorbike at Nangani in the Tempani District. The assailants reportedly laid an ambush and opened fire on the officers around 8:30 p.m.

Both officers sustained gunshot wounds and were first treated at the Basonde Clinic before being transferred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Sadly, Officer Dakurah died in the early hours of Monday.

In a statement, the Immigration Service said it was working closely with the Ghana Police Service to investigate the attack. The Comptroller General of Immigration and the Inspector General of Police have deployed a team from the National Headquarters to the Upper East Region to support the investigation and to reassure officers after the death of their colleague.

The Service extended its condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the late officer, describing the incident as deeply distressing. It also praised the dedication and bravery of its personnel who continue to serve in the protection of Ghana’s borders and national security.

“The Service reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of all its officers and pledges to collaborate closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure that those responsible for these heinous crime are brought to justice,” the statement said.
