Confirmed, Fredrick Kumi (“Abu Trica”) was extradited on Thursday, July 9, 2026, departing Kotoka International Airport aboard Delta flight DL157 to New York, even as his lawyer’s stay application was still pending.

The Ghanaian socialite and businessman departed aboard Delta Air Lines flight DL157 bound for New York on Thursday, bringing to a close a months-long legal battle that saw his lawyers fight the move right up until the final hours.
His transfer followed a July 2 ruling by the Accra High Court, which upheld an earlier Gbese District Court decision approving his extradition and cleared the last legal hurdles standing in the way.
Notably, the extradition proceeded even as an application by his legal team to halt it remained before the same court. Lead counsel Oliver Barker-Vormawor told the High Court on July 6 that he had been out of the country when the extradition order was fast-tracked and had since been unable to locate his client. “We still don’t know where our client is being held,” he said at the time.
Kumi, who faces US charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering over an alleged $8 million romance fraud scheme, was first arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, in a joint operation between Ghanaian security agencies and the FBI.
He had earlier signalled plans to challenge the extradition ruling at Ghana’s Supreme Court — a move his departure from Kotoka today appears to have overtaken.
