Ghana international Inaki Williams has turned his attention to the Spanish La Liga after Athletic Bilbao suffered a narrow defeat to Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final clash.
The Black Stars forward, who captains Athletic Bilbao, started the game and played 56 minutes as his side fell 1-0 at the Estadio de San Mamés. The result leaves Bilbao with work to do ahead of the return leg.
The opening half of the highly anticipated Basque derby ended goalless, with both teams creating chances but failing to break the deadlock. Real Sociedad stepped up in the second half, and Spain international Beñat Turrientes scored the decisive goal to hand the visitors a crucial away victory.
Reacting after the match, Williams emphasized the need for his team to quickly regroup and shift focus to their domestic league campaign. Athletic Bilbao are set to face Real Oviedo in their next La Liga fixture.
“We will focus on the league. The best thing we can do is regain confidence and get three points in the league. We must be a team for 90 minutes, not just 45. We have to press and play in the opponent’s half,” Williams said.
