Ghana has approved a passport for global content creator IShowSpeed, marking a new moment in the country’s use of digital influence to promote culture and national identity.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following IShowSpeed’s recent visit to Ghana as part of his African tour. The YouTuber arrived in the country on Monday, January 26, and spent time exploring major cultural and historical sites while engaging closely with local communities.
During his stay, IShowSpeed visited Asenema Waterfall, the Okuapehene’s Palace, Independence Square, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Bukom, and the Hamamat Shea Museum. His experiences were shared with millions of followers worldwide, offering a lively and unfiltered view of Ghana’s culture, history, and everyday life.
Mr Ablakwa described the decision to grant the Ghana passport as both symbolic and meaningful, pointing to what he called irrefutable ties formed through IShowSpeed’s genuine interaction with Ghanaians and his visible appreciation of the country’s creative space.
The Minister also praised popular Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya for his consistent efforts in telling African stories and helping to bridge the connection between Ghana and global digital audiences. Wode Maya was celebrated as a cultural ambassador whose work has helped reshape how Africa is seen beyond its borders.
Both creators were recognised for using digital storytelling to project Ghana and Africa positively to the world, reflecting the country’s growing recognition of online platforms as tools for cultural diplomacy.
As Ghana continues to position itself as a cultural and creative hub, the gesture signals a clear message that the nation values and supports those who share its story with the global community.
