It’s a collective shame hospital patient was abandoned in the bush – CPP

The Leader of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, has described the death of a patient abandoned by the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba as a collective shame.

Speaking during a visit to the scene where the patient was abandoned, Nana Frimpomaa lamented the hospital’s insensitivity and the lack of care by state institutions, including the police and social welfare department, as well as the apathy of residents in the area.

She called for an immediate improvement in the work of state institutions and a reawakening of the true spirit of Ghanaians, which represents love and compassion.

The Presiding Member of the Gomoa East District Assembly, Geoffrey Panyin Inkoom, also called for the resourcing of the social welfare department, the establishment of district social homes, and improvement in health facilities to prevent similar incidents.

The traditional leaders of Gomoa Ojobi condemned the hospital’s actions, denying rumors that the community failed to assist the patient.

The patient, a 60-year-old woman, was allegedly abandoned in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi after being taken from the hospital and later died.

The social welfare department had attempted to secure her admission to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, but was unable to raise the required GHC 9,000.00.
