‘It’s a disgrace’ – Sheikh Napari on missing ECG containers

The Chief Executive Officer of the Light Foundation, Sheikh Abubakar Ali Napari, has added his voice to the growing public outrage over the reported disappearance of containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at the Tema Port.

In an exclusive interview with Metro News, Sheikh Napari expressed deep disappointment, describing the situation as unacceptable for a nation striving to uphold transparency and accountability.

“This is a total no-no for a country to lose that much. It’s a disgrace and a matter of national concern,” he stated firmly.

He called on the Minister of Energy to treat the issue with urgency and ensure that it does not fade away without accountability.

According to him, all well-meaning Ghanaians are watching closely and are highly interested in the outcome of the investigations.

Sheikh Napari commended both the security services and the Energy Ministry for taking swift action so far, encouraging them to remain steadfast and transparent throughout the process.

In expressing his frustration, he questioned why the country continues to rely on foreign companies for the supply of materials that could easily be produced locally.

“Why can’t we give local manufacturers the opportunity to supply these materials? It would help boost our economy and create jobs. Depending on foreign firms not only costs us more but weakens our local industry,” he emphasized.

The Light Foundation CEO expressed confidence in the capacity of local manufacturers, stating they are more than capable of meeting the country’s needs if given the right support and investment.

He further referenced President Mahama’s renewed commitment to combating corruption, stating that this incident presents a critical test for the government to demonstrate that pledge in action.

“We must deal with this heinous act decisively. Those found culpable must be brought to book. That is how we build trust and protect national resources,” he concluded.

The incident continues to attract national attention, with many civil society groups and individuals demanding full accountability from those responsible.
