Team Ghana made an impressive start to their campaign at the ongoing ITTF-Africa Championships, recording a series of dominant wins in the opening rounds of the continental table tennis competition.
The Ghanaian contingent, led by national stars Derek Abrefa and Cynthia Kwabi, displayed grit and technical brilliance against top opponents from Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa. Their early victories have boosted Ghana’s chances of progressing to the knockout stage and earning valuable ranking points in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) circuit.
According to the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), the team’s preparation and exposure from recent international tournaments have paid off. “Our players are focused and confident. We believe they can challenge the continent’s best,” said GTTA President, Mawuko Afadzinu.
Fans back home have expressed optimism as Ghana aims to secure medals in both singles and team events. The ITTF-Africa Championships, currently taking place in Kigali, Rwanda, bring together Africa’s finest table tennis players in a battle for continental supremacy and qualification for the World Table Tennis Championships.
