The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has told Parliament that the recent power cuts in Asante Akim are linked to technical challenges on the Juansa feeder line, which supplies electricity to the area.
Speaking in the House, Mr. Jinapor explained that the Juansa feeder, which serves Asante Akim North under the Electricity Company of Ghana’s Konongo District, stretches about 234 kilometres from the Konongo primary substation. Its long distance, he said, has caused low voltage problems for residents living at the far end of the line.
Between April and September this year, the feeder recorded three unplanned and five planned outages. According to the Minister, two of the incidents were caused by emergency load shedding by the Electricity Company of Ghana, one by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), and two others were for corrective maintenance.
Mr. Jinapor said steps are already being taken to stabilise supply. In the short term, Voltage Improvement Technology (VIT) installations have been deployed along the feeder to improve service delivery and reduce fluctuations.
He assured Parliament that his ministry is working with the relevant agencies to ensure consistent and reliable power for communities in Asante Akim.
