Asante Kotoko has made some major changes to its technical team as part of efforts to turn things around after a difficult spell in the league.
The shake-up follows the sacking of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who parted ways with the club after a poor run of results saw Kotoko slip from the top of the Ghana Premier League table to fourth place.
Taking charge of the new technical direction is Abdul Karim Zito, who returns to the club as Technical Director. Zito, a former player and coach of the club, brings years of experience at both club and national level.
Zito is best known for guiding Dreams FC to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup and leading Ghana’s U-20 team to the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations title. He’ll also serve as interim Head Coach until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Joining him on the technical bench is Prince Yaw Owusu, who takes up the role of Assistant Coach. Owusu is a well-respected figure in Ghanaian football with more than two decades of coaching experience, having worked with clubs like Medeama SC, Inter Allies, and Sudan’s Khartoum National Club.
He’s also coached at national youth levels, including the U-20 and U-17 teams, and is known for developing players who have gone on to play for top European clubs such as AC Milan, Genoa, Sassuolo, and Fiorentina.
As part of the new setup, Malik Jabir, who previously served as Technical Director, has been moved into the role of Technical Advisor. He’ll now focus on offering guidance and support to the technical team as the club looks to steady the ship and build for the future.
Per the club, the appointments are part of a renewed commitment to building a strong technical foundation, one that’s based on experience, vision, and a desire to bring consistent success.
