The Federation of Kumasi Traders Association has given a two-week deadline for Kofi Duffour, the Managing Director of Kejetia Market to be removed else its members will withhold all payments that are due management of the market.
The group also threatened to cease cooperating with market management, ensuring that none of its members comply with directives by the current manager.
In an interview with Metrotvonline.com, the Chairman of the Federation, Nana Prempeh, expressed the traders’ growing dissatisfaction with the current Managing Director Kofi Duffour’s leadership and the management’s approach to running the market.
“After the two weeks ultimatum, if the MD Kofi Duffour refused to resign or the authorities refused to sack him, the management of the Kejetia Market will not get any money from the traders”.
According to Mr. Prempeh, the management has been pushing all the administrative costs and bills onto the traders, despite this not being the main agreement, lamenting that the traders had previously cooperated to maintain a peaceful working environment, but they now say they will no longer tolerate this arrangement.
“We will not cooperate, with his management. Moneies that they levy us, we won’t pay to management for the administration to run”
The Chairman of the Federation has also accused Mr. Duffour of hoarding a portion of the money donated by the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to victims of fire outbreak that razed some shops down, for his own personal gain, while making decisions without consulting the stakeholders.
Furthermore, he claimed that Mr. Duffour’s leadership has been divisive, sowing discord among the traders themselves.
“He is also bringing division among the traders,” Mr. Prempeh added.
“Recently, the main ECG power transformer in the market got broken and we the traders fix it. He levied us to pay and we did. So, when I say we will no longer pay those monies, you must understand”
