Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, bringing his year-long stint as caretaker minister to an end.
Dr Ato Forson assumed responsibility for the ministry after President John Dramani Mahama tasked him with overseeing its affairs following the death of the substantive Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash.
For the past year, Dr Ato Forson has managed the ministry alongside his substantive duties as Finance Minister.
The transition was formally completed on Friday, August 14, with both ministers signing the necessary documents to confirm the change in leadership.
Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei will now take full charge of the Defence Ministry, overseeing its day-to-day operations, policy direction and other matters relating to the sector.
The handover also frees Dr Ato Forson to concentrate fully on his responsibilities at the Finance Ministry as the government continues to implement its economic programme.
