The new head coach of the Ghana Women’s National Football Team, Kim Lars Bjorkegren has been officially unveiled in a ceremony at the GFA secretariat in Accra.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by several prominent figures in the football fraternity including Executive Council Members Gideon Fosu, Samuel Aboabire and were also joined by General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, Technical Director Professor Joseph Mintah, and assistant coach Anita Wiredu Mintah.
Bjorkegren, the 43 years old Swedish coach, succeeds Nora Hauptle, who has already joined the Zambia National Women’s football team and has signed a two years contract with the GFA to lead the Black Queens.
At the unveiling, Bjorkegren was very optimistic about achieving success for the team.
“The most important aspect of my job is to visit all the players, watch games, and help them to improve.”
“In life, sometimes you are successful one day, sometimes not. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but I think the most important thing for me, the staff, and the players is to work hard every single day to make sure that, we will be successful sooner or later.”
“I can see so much talent in this country, so I am really sure that, in short term, we have the potential to be successful but in long term, I can guarantee that we will be successful.”
Also, he mentioned that, the team is in a bad position and assures to redirect the team to a better position from its current FIFA rankings.
Prior to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July, his first task is to get the team ready for a 10-day tour and an international friendly against Morocco, which is set for February 21 in Casablanca.
As part of the FIFA international window in February, this game will be Bjorkegren’s first chance to assess the team’s strengths and shortcomings, establishing the tone for his coaching career.
