Ghanaian singer King Promise marked his birthday by spending the day giving back to underprivileged children in Accra, donating GH₵30,000 to Akwaaba Volunteers NGO.
The singer, whose real name is Gregory Promise Bortey Newman, began his birthday celebrations on Saturday, August 15, a day before his birthday, with an early morning run alongside the 7 Even Run Club and members of Akwaaba Volunteers NGO.
Rather than focusing solely on the usual birthday celebrations, King Promise used the occasion to draw attention to the work of the organisation, which supports vulnerable and underprivileged children in Ghana.
The day’s activities continued in the evening with a padel session involving children supported by Akwaaba Volunteers NGO.
The session, organised to raise funds and awareness for the organisation, gave the children an opportunity to take part in the sport while spending time with the musician and other supporters.
King Promise also donated GH₵30,000 to support the children and the organisation’s work.
The initiative was supported by Ecobank Ghana, the singer’s brand ambassador partner, as part of the bank’s support for community focused projects.
“Turning a year older is a blessing, and I wanted to spend it giving back to the community that has given me so much love,” King Promise said.
“Running with 7 Even Run Club and spending the evening on the padel court with these kids reminded me what this day is really about, showing up for others.”
Akwaaba Volunteers NGO thanked the singer for his support, saying contributions such as his would help improve the lives and opportunities available to children under its care.
For King Promise, the birthday celebration offered a chance to turn a personal milestone into an opportunity to support children in need, while highlighting the work of an organisation focused on vulnerable young people.
